As laughing helps to release positive feel good endorphins, it is a must exercise to do. It promotes and enriches brain function, giving one a greater sense of well-being. Here is a testimonial from Chandler House, who work with mental health patients, associated with the Anglis Hospital in Upper Ferntree Gully:
The session was very good, it helped the staff to relax and laugh, was a great help in our work which is very stressful. Like a tonic. Maria, Chandler House, Ferntree Gully.
Laughter Yoga is an interactive opportunity to loosen up, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. It is of great benefit to do in as group process, helping people connect, communicate and have fun together. At the same time it releases stress and heightens emotions, as well bringing mental clarity.
Laughter helps one to get in touch with their inner child and removes inhibitions. Fake laughter has the same benefit on the body as authentic laughter. It improves creativity and light heartedness. At the same time reduces stress by releasing endorphins into the bloodstream. Laughter strengthens the immune system and connects a person with their own heart energy and with other people. It reduces depression, lowers blood pressure and provides the internal organs to be massaged – it is called ‘internal jogging’.
Nature of Presentation:
The duration is ideally 30 minutes to one hour, finishing with a short meditation. It begins with breathing and clapping, followed by Laughter Yoga exercises. Each bout of laughter lasts for 30-40 seconds, followed by clapping and ho ho ha ha ha exercise. Two or three deep breaths after taken after every laugh. Finishing with a little breathing. Also an option is to at the end all members stand with their eyes closed for one minute with their arms spread upwards, hoping for world peace.
Training Purpose - Scientifically Proven Research
There is more proven research on the benefits of laughing. Children laugh 300-400 times a day, whereas adults laugh only 15 times a day. In the 1950s we laughed 18 minutes a day, compared with today, it is only 6 minutes.
We can easily learn how to change this trend and get back to laughing more, having more fun. What’s more, you don't need a sense of humour, everyone can do it. It starts with exercises to ‘fake it till you make it’. In reality, the faking only lasts a moment, as laughing is most contagious.
